INVENTORY AND DASOCRATIC STAND STRATIFICATION IN “LA GARGANTA” PUBLIC FOREST LAND IN ARENAS DE SAN PEDRO AND CANDELEDA (ÁVILA)

The aim of this project was to inventory and do the dasocratic stratification of the forest stands in “LA GARGANTA” Public Forest Lands (MUP nº136), which are owned by Arenas de San Pedro and Candeleda (Ávila) in the Central Spain, with a total area of 4,059.9 ha.

In a forest management plan, is necessary to classify the different stand development stages located in the study area and to quantify the amount of wood in each of them through forest sampling. Long term objectives of the “LA GARGANTA” Public Forest Lands management plan are the persistence of natural values and the improvement of forest habitats. In general, overall objective of forest management is to make compatible the use of natural resources with prescriptions for the protection endangered species (or species affected by habitat degradation), as well as with soil conservation and maintenance of a continuous forest cover.
