THINNING EXPERIMENTS IN PALENCIA MODEL FOREST
THINNING INTENSITIES INFLUENCE BIODIVERSITY IN PALENCIA MODEL FOREST

These thinning experiments are part of the existing agreement between IUFOR and ECM to execute different tasks for the implementation of the Palencia Model Forest initiative, 2015.

ECM has participated, under IUFOR supervision, in the design and the development of a thinning experiment to identify the best thinning intensity to apply on pine plantations in Palencia Model Forest, as well as the impact of thinning on biodiversity, shrub species and mycological productivity.

Thinning experiment consists of three plots located in three sampling sites: 1) Pinus nigra pure stand in Fresno del Río, 2) Pinus sylvestris pure stand in Mantinos and 3) Pinus nigra and Pinus sylvestris mixed stand in Villaeles de Valdavia. For each plot, four different thinning intensities were applied in order to know the best forestry management prescriptions for the next decades.
